Orbea doesn’t manufacture a bike just to fill a spot in their line up, they build bikes with the intention of winning! When you look at most manufacturers ‘cross bikes, its clear they just took a road bike and “tweaked” it for ‘cross.
The Orbea Terra was designed from the ground up to handle the torture that this sport can dish out. These custom elements include:
ATT Ergonomy System: The ATT Ergonomy System technology. Cyclocross races are plagued with obstacles. With that in mind Orbea have created an assembly with an asymmetric horizontal frame. With this, they create a greater contact area between the cyclist and the bike for those stretches where it has to be carried on the shoulder.
DCR: The DCR direct cabling system is another of the advantages that the Orbea Terra offers cyclocross users. The technology created by Orbea and successfully tested in Alma and Orca, has been transferred to Terra to obtain greater precision and gear change smoothness, decreasing friction and maintenance and avoiding dirt getting in, part and parcel of this sport. Additionally this direct cabling is specific to Terra as it has been moved it to the right side to optimize comfort and as a consequence the cyclist’s performance.
4PT: With the 4 points triangle (ok, now its a quadrangle) they have increased the side stiffness and increased torsional strength by 15% over a traditional triangle. What does that mean to you? Simple, all your energy is delivered from the pedals to the rear wheel, launching you forward with no wasted energy while absorbing more of the vibration that those nasty cross trail love to dish out!
BB30 Bottom Bracket: The Terra also uses a BB30 bottom bracket. This adds performance by increasing stiffness where it counts. At the bottom bracket, you’ll enjoy a 30% stiffer and lighter aluminum spindle compared to standard external bearing cranksets. Another benefit is the increased heel and ankle clearance.
Monocoque Construction: The tension is optimally distributed over the entire structure, there are no seals and no joints and critical areas are therefore minimized. This means your frame will stand up to the toughest use, and the structure will not lose any of its characteristics, however far you ride it. Monocoque technology assures the perfect fusion of the composite materials, not only on the visible external layers but also internally, thus preventing any loss of performance caused by fatigue at the joints, which is not the case for the more traditional, cheaper type of frame construction. The paintwork remains intact as there are no joints. It is a solid, one-piece structure, it is not made up of separate parts joined together… do you need any more reasons for choosing an Orbea monocoque frame?
Size Specific Nerve (SSN) Technology: Each bike size is designed individually, optimizing the frame structure according to the stiffness ratio and the cyclist’s body mass. The result is five individually-designed frames, 100% exclusive and perfectly balanced.
