Yeti ASR 5C

Our new little buddy from Yeti, Phil (a.k.a. Flanders) cruised into town with a truck full of new toys for Matt & Clarence to kick around.  Now to be honest, we were amused by the new Yeti 5C (C is for Carbon).  We thought Yeti had lost their mind when the launched this 5 Inch travel bike, we simply could not see the need for it.  What is this bike, all mountain, trail, cross country or enduro?  Nope, it’s all of them!

The review for this bike is the easiest review we have ever written.  This is the best 26” mountain bike we have ever ridden, period.  It climbs better, descends better and corners better than any 26” mountain bike.  If you only have one mountain bike, this is it.  If you could only have two mountain bikes, we recommend getting two of these, so one is clean at all times.

A few details as what makes this bike so damn good.  First, it has lateral stiffness like no other mountain bike we have ever ridden, hard tail or full suspension.  How do they do it, well there are quite a few new tricks here:

•  Tapered Head Tube (1-1/8” to 1-1/2”)
• 15 mm front axle
• 142mm x 12 mm rear axle
• Massive hand laid High Mod Carbon Front & Rear

Second, this bike is sick light.  Now how do you build a 5” bike that’s crazy light?  You usually you shoot the money gun at it, buy crazy light/expensive parts that are “whippy” and very fragile.  Another idea is to build a crazy light and stiff frame (4.75 lbs with rear shock) and surround it with tough a durable parts (Fox Fork, UST Tires, Thompson bits etc…) and you get a rock solid trail shredding machine, 24lbs for XT build, 22.5 on the Pro kit…..BAM!

So there you have it…..now just pick the Color (Black or White) and the Kit (good, better or best), drive to Mad Duck and order one.  Now what are you waiting for?
